At last, somebody finally put all those B2B social media stats into one nifty video a’la Socialnomics. Actually, that somebody was a company called Earnest (giving credit where credit is due).
Last year eMarketer published a “shocking” report that B2B companies are far more active in certain social media initiatives (e.g. microblogging) than their B2C counterparts. For example, 81% of B2B companies maintain company-related accounts or profiles on social media sites versus 67% of B2C. The video cites its sources. Enjoy.
eMarketer revised its forecast last week for US. Internet ad spending upward to 10.8% growth this year compared with 2009 (versus 5.5% it had predicted in December). This means US Internet ad spending will total $25.1 billion this year, after declining 3.4% last year.
Google’s reported 21% jump in net US ad revenue for 1Q10 (compare this to the 5.3% gain in last year’s Q1) was a the impetus for eMarketer to re-evaluate how fast the sector is rebounding. eMarketer said it anticipates that search spending will increase 15.7% this year, while banner ad spending will jump 8.2% and video spending will increase 48.1%.
In addition, in both the US and Europe, emphasis on accountability and return on investment (ROI) are causing more marketers to turn to search engine marketing and optimization tactics.
By now you have read all the Top 10 predictions for 2010 blog posts and chief among them is mobile marketing is going to be BIG! As some online advertising venues shrink, eMarketer predicts that mobile advertising to reach over $1 billion by 2012 across all principal formats (i.e. display, search, messaging).
I’m sure we will be blogging more about mobile advertising and other emerging channels like digital video throughout the year. Stay tuned.
